S.I.S. little Masters

Let me make it very clear first of all, that neither do I watch nor recommend such time-waster programs. 2 or 3 times during surfing channels I happened to stop for 5 minutes on this DID (dance India dance) program on Zee TV. On first instance I renamed it as CIC (circus India Circus) as all the contestants were seen doing less of a dance and more of acrobatics on poles, ropes and even trapeze! But this time on sunday night when a little one dressed up like bar dancers stopped my surfing for a while, I couldn't stop myself from writing about a program which I never found fit even to comments upon. The little champs section of DID has started and it was a less than 7 year old kid girl that was performing. I had previously seen their promos where a kiddie of similar age was seen performing bharat natyam in such a way that really spell-bound me. Cute and superb. But today when this little girl started performing I certainly noticed something odd and somewhat 'dirty' if it concerned a child. Incidently the same feeling occured among the judges. The moment she hurled a sensuous kiss at judges while gyrating to 'touch me touch me kiss me kiss me song, the judges were seen 're-directing' the kiss 'bypass' from above their heads and stopping the 'dance' immediately with disgust clear on their faces. The father of the girl was called on stage and scolded by judges for teaching such expressions and actions to someone so young. All the while the kid was looking with surprize when her father was being insulted in front of hundreds of viewers present and millions to watch on TV.

Surprizingly, the father was adamant-enough to say that he was a dance teacher and knows his job. "I teach dance to 5000 kids and I know what parents want from me", was his arguement. Anyways his kid was 'promoted' to next level on the basis of 'performance' and the whole drama ended with hugs.

There are perhaps a few questions in the minds of viewers. It was not a live show and so the performance was not 'accidental'. If they really found it objectionable, why did not they delete it before telecast in the first place. what effect this would have on young minds watching? More than that, what effect would be on the young minds 'trying to understand' what wrong really happened! To trying to understand that they are too young to 'even try to understand!' It is known that the childhood is certainly changing but it is still not desirable to 'accelerate' this change. The program-makers knew it certainly that those 'children's organizations' wouldn't digest it the way it went. So was it another gimmick like the 'fight among judges' which is now old and uncashable phenomenon. Was this 'scolding' only to avoid the anger of some 'children's organizations' even before they could raise objections? Was it a clever move to 'show everything that some sick minds may demand' and then pacify the rational ones too, so that there is no stopping the show?!

In that case I am forced to re-re-name the program as SIS where 'S' stands for 'shame'!
The evil eye!
